When messages are sent with the ‘repliable’ option selected (tick box on the web interface, parameter setting on the API, or default on the desktop software), the outgoing mobile terminated (MT) message is sent with one of BulkSMS’s reply pool mobile numbers in the sender id. The recipient of the message can reply directly to the SMS and the reply will be routed back to the BulkSMS user that sent the MT message. Note that the ‘repliable’ option will over ride any sender id settings that may have been set.
Replies are local in the following countries:
This means that if a message sent to a mobile number in one of these countries is set to repliable, the recipient will be able to reply by sending his or her replies to a BulkSMS reply pool number from that country and no international SMS messaging fees will be applicable. Note that the reply pool numbers are standard rate numbers so the cost for the recipient to send a reply will be whatever the standard rate SMS cost is with his or her mobile network provider.
Repliable messages to countries outside of the above list will normally carry a sender id with a number from our United Kingdom reply pool, but there are some exceptions. Notably, replies from Denmark and Norway will go through the Swedish number reply pool, replies from Austria and Switzerland will go through the German number reply pool, and replies from New Zealand will go through the Australian number reply pool. Note that currently we do not support replies from networks in the USA.
Replies can be found in the inbox on your BulkSMS account, and can be set to be forwarded to an email address or to a URL. To set up forwarding to an email address click on ‘Email to SMS settings’ once you have logged into the BulkSMS web interface. To forward incoming messages to a URL, please contact Support.
Some clients may need to be able to receive messages from their clients or customers or other that are not replies. This is possible when using a dedicated incoming number. Information on dedicated incoming numbers and acquiring one or more is available here.
